The Canadian Bank of Commerce Building, Cranbrook, B.C.

The Canadian Bank of Commerce building and Wentworth Hotel. The Canadian Bank of Commerce came to Cranbrook August 8, 1898, within a month of the arrival of the railway. Built at a cost of $15,000 it was one of Cranbrook's first imposing commercial structures. By 1967 the building no longer adequately accommodated bank business. The new (and present) Royal Bank building opened August 17th, 1968. The Wentworth Hotel can be seen behind the bank building.

Steel Framing For Royal Bank Cranbrook, B.C. 1968

Building of the Royal Bank in Cranbrook, B.C. The steel girders are shown being hoisted into position on the new Royal Bank building on the corner of Baker and Cranbrook Streets. They were quickly put in place with the huge hoist and steel workers from Calgary. The new building will have the first elevator in a commercial building in Cranbrook aside form the old and new hospitals.

The new structure, which is being built at a cost of approximately half a million dollars, is located at the corner of Baker and Cranbrook streets. The modern three storey building will house Cranbrook's first commercial elevator.
