SIMPSON AGAIN CHOSEN HEAD OF TENNIS CLUB – Organization Shown On Good Financial Footing At Annual Meeting Held Monday

            The city tennis club met in annual session in the City Hall, Monday, April 28, good attendance marking the meeting.  Dr. Fergie, club secretary, read the financial statement for the year to show total receipts $391.78 in 1929, a balance in the bank of $50.28 and all accounts fully paid up.

            Officers elected for the ensuing twelve months were:

            Honorary President – N.A. Wallinger.

            President – G.P. Simpson (reelected).

            Secretary-Treasurer – Dr. W.A. Fergie (reelected).

            Executive Committee – A. Raworth, Mrs. E. McKowan, Walter Mansfield, W.A. Drayton, C. Harrison.

            Membership fees agreed upon, with minor changes, were practically the same as last year, viz..: Men, $10; ladies, $7.50; family (two persons), $12.50; extra member of family, $5.00.

            Junior membership was limited to persons of twelve years, or over, with privileges of playing on each day, except Saturday, till six o’clock in the afternoon; on Saturdays till 2 p.m.  Juniors without family will be accepted into membership on payment of $2.50 membership fee.

Tourney Dates Approved

            Approval was given to June 29-30 and July 1st as dates set for the annual Crows Nest Tournament, following a brief discussion.

            In connection with ladder games for which Mr. A. Raworth provides cups and other prizes, it was decided at Mr. Raworth’s request that all sets in play, except for first three places, shall be decided in 13 games.  In the case of the first three players on the ladder list places may be decided in best out of three sets.

Ladies Thanked

            Mrs. G.P. Simpson and Mrs. Willis were heartily thanked for their assistance to junior players, especially in the matter of the Junior Tournament, held in September last.

            Oiling of the courts was left in the hands of the executive committee.

Opening Tea

            The date for the official opening tea was set for Saturday, May 3rd, to which intending members and friends are cordially invited.  Miss Amy Woodland and Miss Godderis, members of the Ladies’ Committee for the year, will act as hostesses.  Other members of the committee are: Mrs. G.P. Simpson, Mrs. P.W. Willis and Mrs. G.S. MacIntosh.
