Running a gas engine in a closed apartment is a dangerous procedure, as William Steward of the Cosmopolitan Hotel discovered the other day. Mr. Steward was testing an outboard boat motor in a shed in the rear of his residence before attaching it to his boat when he was suddenly affected by monoxide gas. But for the fact that the door of the shed was open he would have been overcome by the poisonous vapour, he believes.
