“MAD CAPERS” PROVES CATCHY PRESENTATION – Dress Rehearsal and Children’s Matinee Staged Yesterday, Ensured Comedy’s Success

“Mad Capers,” the comedy and dancing show, running under Gyro auspices this week, made its informal debut with a dress rehearsal and children’s matinee yesterday.  The show is better than advertised.  It is, in fact, one of the best things of its kind ever seen here.  The dialogue fairly sparkles with brilliant passages, which flows from the lips of the performers in a constant ripple of brilliant and humorous repartee.

Carried with a swing, the various parts are excellently taken; the story of the eminently respectable realtor who reverted to the gay dog days of his twenties when he lost his memory is splendidly told by Chester Staples and the supporting cast.  “Mad Capers” is nothing if not an ideal vehicle for local talent of undoubted merit.

Behind the story of the comedy is the most brilliant costuming ever seen in this city; the ballets, of which there are several, fairly scintillating with color and clever dancing.

To Miss Mabelle Slick, to whom the company of seventy-six performers owe their training, great credit is due, and the performers themselves cannot be too highly commended for the efforts they have put forth under Miss Slick’s expert tuition.

In the afternoon prior to the initial performance, the Gyros inaugurated a motor parade in which many of the business houses in the city participated with their cars and trucks loaded with school children who thought the procession no end of fun.

“Mad Capers” formally opens this evening for a three-night run, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
