MISS MacLEOD PASSES HERE WEDNESDAY. – Succumbed to Attack Of Heart Trouble. – Had Been in Business Here for Nearly Thirty Years. – Was Born In Ontario.

Cranbrook lost a pioneer citizen on Wednesday in the death of Miss Margaret MacLeod, who passed away at St. Eugene Hospital at 4 p.m. after a brief illness of ten days.  Death was attributed to heart trouble.  The end came suddenly, deceased feeling considerably improved after a week in the hospital.  A sudden attack carried her off in a few seconds.  Her sister, Mrs. (Dr.) Rutledge, was with her when the end came.

The late Miss MacLeod came to Cranbrook in the year 1901 and engaged in the millinery and ladies’ ready-to-wear, being an expert in her line.  Previous to her coming to Cranbrook she resided for years with her parents at Kaslo, where they were pioneer residents, both of whom passed to their reward in Cranbrook and are buried in Vancouver.

The late Miss MacLeod was born at Vankleek Hill, Ontario.  She is survived by four sisters, Mrs. L. Crocker, of Hyanis, Massachusetts; Mrs. W.H. Crooks, of Vankleek Hill, Ontario; Mrs. Zilli, of Tacoma; and Mrs (Dr.) J.W. Rutledge, of this city.  Two sisters predeceased her, Mrs. G. Minnielly, of Portland, Oregon, and Mrs. McKay, of Vancouver, both of whom were well known here.

The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the bereaved in their sad and irreparable loss.  Deceased was a splendid type of character, a good citizen and a general favorite with the citizens.  She will be greatly missed.

Funeral arrangements are not complete at time of going to press.
