A Ktunaxa Group at St. Eugene Mission

A small Ktunaxa group gathered at the St. Eugene Mission, near Cranbrook, B.C. Troy Hunter added: The hillside in the back of the picture is an area that is now known as part of St. Mary's Indian Reserve 1A. The Dewdney Trail comes down the draw on this hillside and leads towards St. Eugene Church; they are likely standing on the Dewdney Trail (formerly Walla Walla Trail). This is also the crossroads of the Perry Creek Trail. The St. Eugene Mission Village was built at the crossroads of these two very important public roadways. The reason there are few trees in the picture is due to the Indians grazing their horses and the collection of firewood.
