LIGHTS AND CONCENTRATOR – Alexander Companies Will Ask Concessions from the City. – The Light Plan in Detail.

            D.W. Moore, acting for George Alexander in the matter of the proposed concentrator and sampling works, and on behalf of George Alexander, John L. Retallack and others in the matter of the electric light system, some mention of which was made in these columns last week, submitted to the members of the city council Thursday night an outline of the two companies’ plans, together with the details of the concessions which they will ask of the city.

            Briefly, they will ask the city for: Exemption from taxation for the period of ten years, their 240-tonore sampling plant to be erected and put in operation within ninety days from date.  Also the same exemption upon their 140-ton concentrator, to be built and put in operation within a period of two years.

            They will agree that in the event of one or both of these plants lying idle for a period of three months in any one year, they shall be liable to taxation for that year.  The electric lighting proposition as laid down by Mr. Moore, will in effect be as follows:

            In consideration of the city granting to the company immunity from taxation on their lighting plant for a period of ten years and entering into a contract with the company to take at the rate of $10 each, per month, for the period of ten years, not less than seven arc lights for street lighting purposes, the company will put in and operate within ninety days, an electric light plant to cost approximately $10,000.  They will agree to furnish constantly satisfactory lights up to the full requirements of the citizens and will bind themselves to the following maximum rate: Lights running until 12 o’clock in residences, six or more lights, 75 cents each per month; less than six, 85 cents.  In business houses, six or more lights, $1 each; less than six, $1.25.  All night lights, residences, six or more lights, $1.15; less than six, $1.25.  Business houses, all night lights, six or more, $1.50; less than six, $1.75.

            The council men have given the matter much informal consideration and will meet tonight to receive the proposals in regular form.
