            Ira Black, of Sandon, is preparing to build a $10,000 hotel in that town.

            W.B. Smith, brother of the irrepressible Bob, is here and will soon open up a photographic studio.

            Last Saturday evening the steamship Kokanee brought in five cases of merchandise, all for Kaslo merchants.

            The new main building of “The Kaslo” is assuming proportions.  Landlord Cockle is pushing the work and expects to have the handsomest hotel in the country.

            The Provincial Building and Loan Association has passed at Toronto two more Kaslo loans, aggregating $1000, making a total of $6000 for new buildings in Kaslo in thirty days.

            “You win this game I will uniform the club,” said Cole Murchison to the Kaslo team when they crossed bats with Sandon on May 26^th.  The boys won the game and Cole kept his promise.  Notice that uniform?

            Manager Sanders, of the Kaslo ball team, is trying to arrange a grand ball tournament, to be held here, in which Rossland, Nelson, Sandon, New Denver and Kaslo will participate.  Failing in this, he will endeavor to bring about a game with Rossland, the only club in Kootenay which his giants have not met and defeated.

            The public school opened last Monday with an enrollment of 52 pupils.  Many children are prevented from attending on account of lack of seating capacity and room.  The board has ordered new seats and will soon take up the matter of providing additional accommodation for school children.  Kaslo’s growing population will soon demand another school building.

            The council meets tonight to receive the proposal of the Alexander companies re electric lights.  As this matter will probably soon be placed before the rate payers, those who are interested should attend tonight’s meeting.

            Never before in the history of the country has the demand upon the record office been so heavy as at present.  Recorder Keen informs the KOOTENAIAN that he is kept constantly at his desk from early morning until late at night, yet can scarcely keep up with the work.  Upwards of seventy locations were made last week, and for this week the figure runs near the 100 mark.
