LOCAL ALPINISTS SCALE FISHER PEAK. –

A party composed of Rev. J.R. Allen of Kimberley, Rev. J. Linney, Melvin Hughes, Clyde Bingham, Harold Leask and A.D. Bridges set out last Monday evening to scale Fisher Peak, loftiest pinnacle in the range of mountains to the east of the city.  Mr. Bridges, who has made the ascent on previous occasions, led the party, acting as guide.

The party followed the old Victor mine trail for about one hour, then started for Fisher proper using “Bridges’ trail” and in one hour of good climbing reached first camp.  A grassy place, running water close by, and a few trees scattered around made it an ideal camping spot.  One lone visitor wandered into camp during the night in the shape of a porcupine.  This inquisitive individual carried Rev. J. Allen’s shoe away from his camp bed some three feet.  Mr. Allen awoke and was very much relieved to recover his property, especially as his spectacles had been placed there for safe keeping.

After a good breakfast the climbers hit the trail at 7 a.m. and the leaders reached the summit by 10 a.m.  Here it was found that only about ten men would be able to find comfortable sitting room on the peak itself.  The party felt amply repaid for the venture in return for beautiful mountain scenes, water falls, and a lovely natural rock garden.  Melville Hughes secured first trophy specimen in the shape of a spray of ferns found on a piece of rock, as clear as if they were stencilled but yesterday.  The party returned to Cranbrook Tuesday evening, well pleased with the trip.

Mr. Bridges would be glad to furnish information to climbers contemplating going to Fisher Peak.
