Winner of Men's Downhill 1902 Douglas Lawier
Photo shows Douglas Lawier aged 8 years winning the senior men's downhill ski race 1902 in Rossland. The photo is taken at the foot of Washington Street alongside the Bank of Montreal. Douglas was presented with a set of smoker pipes by Mayor John S Clute in the Rossland Skating Rink. In later years Douglas worked as a salesman for Alcock, Downing & Wright Plumbing and Heating supplies in Vancouver, in which capacity he visited Trail and Rossland. He died in Vancouver Jan. 15 1954. The policeman in the photo is Alex Stewart who would later become Chief of Police in Nelson. Also in the photo is Mr. Gunlippe who was the lead of Nelson Ironworks
