C & W Construction

            Manager Whyte of the C.P.R. accompanied by Superintendent Marpole, were visitors to Trail this week.  Mr. Whyte was in consultation with Chief Engineer W.F. Tye, as a result of which construction on the Robson-Midway line will be pushed more vigorously than ever.  In fact, the road will be carrying freight to the Boundary country just as soon as the rails are laid to Cascade City or some convenient point from which it can be freighted without awaiting the completion of the road to Midway.  This will prove of great benefit to the Boundary merchants and save the great delay and heavy freighting charges to which they are now subjected.  By August, at the latest, Mr. Whyte thinks the rails will be laid and the road finished except for the big tunnel, but the company does not propose to let this remain an obstacle.  Progress on this piece of work has been retarded because of the cold weather which shut off the water supply in the operation of the compressor plant.  However a switchback will be constructed for use until the completion of the tunnel.
