A nod to Amy Woodland Elementary
Preserving educational history:
The recent fire at Amy Woodland School in Cranbrook highlights the Columbia Basin Institute of Regional History’s (CBIRH) vital partnership with School District No.5 (SD#5).
We salvaged, scanned and returned fifteen boxes of material from the Elkford school fire. Vast archives from the defunct 10th Avenue and Muriel Baxter schools rest with us.
With our materials, the CBIRH has mounted large photographic exhibits in the SD#5 Board Office in Cranbrook and Fernie’s Kootenay Learning Campus (KLC).
Our organization recently helped salvage the Mount Baker Girls’ Bugle Band legacy for further documentation and exhibition.
We also have some material from Amy Woodland.
Preserving educational history is integral to our mandate, and the CBIRH feels honoured to partner with SD#5 to continue to build a comprehensive history of our schools through its Legacy of Learning program.
