CPR Railway Accident at Moyie

A CPR train engine overturned in Moyie Lake on November 20, 1925. The train encountered a rock slide at the entrance to the Jerome tunnel at Moyie and the engine derailed into the lake. Everyone jumped clear of the wreck except the fireman, Robert Eley, who was later found trapped under the locomotive.

A CPR train locomotive over-turned off the tracks, with recover work in progress. The train encountered a rock slide at the entrance to the Jerome tunnel at Moyie and the engine went into Moyie Lake. Everyone jumped clear except the fireman Robert Eley, who was found trapped under the locomotive.

Train wreck, Moyie, B.C. 1925 - Photo shows a mangled locomotive on the flatcar of a work train, eventually going to Montreal CPR shops for repairs. The wreck occurred November 20, 1925. The train encountered a rock slide at the entrance to the Moyie tunnel (Jerome tunnel) and the engine derailed and went into the lake. The fireman killed in the wreck was Robert Ely. He was found trapped under the locomotive, while everyone else managed to jump clear.
