Alan Forrester [Porrigter] and Brooklyn Murderer
Alan Forrester [Porrigter on photo] and Brooklyn murderer - taken to Nelson, B.C. to be hanged, 1898. The murderer was captured in crawl space under saloon. John Forrester suggests that: this is a picture of my grandfather with Milton O. Howell, who was being escorted back to Montana to stand trial for murder. He was going willingly. It was probably taken in Robson, B.C. in 1899.

Alan Forrester - Brooklyn, BC, Policeman
Alan Forrester, a policeman in the railway construction town of Brooklyn, B.C., just west of Castlegar. A construction town with just over 1,000 residents at its peak, it kept the local constabulary very busy. A contributor pointed out that the uniform looks like a NWMP corporal's uniform. Another contributor suggested that the pips on the shoulder indicate the commissioned rank of "Inspector". John Forrester added: The uniform is the "Undress" or "Stable" uniform of the A Batteruy, Royal School of Aretillery based in Kingston. Alan Forrester joined in 1886 and left in May of 1888 to join the NWMP. The NWMP did not have breast pockets on their uniforms until 1896, after Forrester left the NWMP and joined the BC Provincial Police in Rossland.
