Peter Lund

Peter Lund, partner with John Breckenridge, focused on building the Crow's Nest Pass Lumber Company. He chose Wardner as centre of the operation and acquired timber lands along the St. Mary's River and as far up the Kootenay River as Canal Flats.

Jim White, Alfred Doyle and William Carlin (1915) on the steps of Carlin's ranch house south of Fort Steele. Al Doyle and Bill Carlin were two of thew six original shareholders of the Crow's Nest Pass Lumber Company, incorporated September 20, 1902.

Captain M.B. White-Fraser

White-Fraser resigned from the N.W.M.P. and purchased an interest in the Robins Brothers livery and feed business. He enlarged the business with a stage line connecting Wardner with Fort Steele, Cranbrook and other points. In 1898 he was sworn in as a justice of the peace and soon after sold his interest in the White-Fraser Stage line.

Jim Wardner, Promoter and Entrepeneur

James F. Wardner acquired the Wardner townsite from Arthur Fenwick, the original Crown grant recipient. There are several different stories as to how, but Wardner consolidated and hired T.T. McVittie to survey the townsite of Wardner in February, 1897. The King Edward Hotel

The King Edward Hotel in Wardner, c. 1912. Situated on Wallace Avenue, it was possibly known as the Kootenay House in 1897-98. Owners included Ole Holm and Anton (Tony) Rosicky. It closed in the 1930s for lack of a liquor license and was torn down.

SS North Star

SS North Star on the Kootenay River docked at Jennings, Montana, c. 1900. The North Star was a serious force on the Kootenay River, supplying both Wardner and Fort Steele before the CPR came in. The North Star delivered a lot of supplies when the B.C. Southern was being constructed, eventually putting itself out of work as the railway took over,
