C & W Construction

            The construction of the Columbia & Western railroad from Robson to Midway is well under way.  The completion of the tote road to Cascade City over which supplies will be hauled, is the only hindrance.     When that is finished the force of men will be increased until it numbers 3,000 or more.  At present the principal operations center around Brooklyn and on the right of way between Brooklyn and Robson.  Camps innumerable have been erected, and the grade is plainly discerned along the banks of the winding Columbia.  The 20^th of the month will be pay day at Brooklyn, but as the men have had to outlay so much for the bedding and other necessities the disbursements will not nearly equal those of the month to follow.  About 700 men are employed at rpesent.
