Trail Development

TWO BIG PLANTS. – Trail Secures Iron Works and Machine Shops. – Solely On Our Merits. – Both Come Without Subsidy or Solicitation, and Both are Welcome.

            Of late several owners of property in Trail have complained to the NEWS of our not “Stirring things up,” or “booming” Trail.  The NEWS has at all times contended that the last thing Trail need wish for is a “boom.”  Trail’s resources, and her geographical position, assure this town of a successful future, and a swift but gradual growth is far better than an unhealthy ‘Boom.”

            For some time past we have known that the British Columbia Iron Works Company was negotiating with Eugene Sayre Topping for a site on which to erect iron works at Trail.  Now that it is settled we announce the fact that Trail has secured the enterprise, as well as a branch of the Mac machine Works.  These two enterprises will give employment to a number of workmen, and will enhance the value of property in our Town.

            The sites selected for these two enterprises is block sixteen, nearly opposite the NEWS office, on Bay View avenue, and facing on both the water front and Bay View avenue.  The location may be changed, but only in the event that Mr. Heinze needs it for railroad purposes.

IRON WORKS FOR TRAIL.

            J.W. Campion, of the C.C. Iron Works, who returned from a business trip to Southern Kootenay, is so favorably impressed with that section of the Province and its coming importance as a mining centre that upon the representations made by him his company have decided upon establishing a branch of their works in Trail.  It will be complete in every respect, and capable of turning out any job entrusted to it.  The want of such works as are now to be supplied has long been felt by the mining population of Kootenay and the Interior generally.  Mr. Campion believes that Trail is destined to become a large city and a centre for smelters, refineries and mining concerns generally.  Work upon the new establishments is to begin at an early date.  Trail is, indeed, Mr. Campion avers, a place where smelters grow and are certain to continue doing so in the future.

CAPITALISTS WELL PLEASED.

            D. McLaren, of Ottawa, and H.S. Burrell, of Belleville, both prominent and well-known men in Eastern Ontario, have been in the Province for some weeks past, and are now in the city, the guests of J.W. Campion, 1136 Barclay street.  They are on their way home, going through California, New Mexico, Arizona and Mexico.  Mr. McLaren is largely interested in mining and other industrial propositions in this Province.  He traveled through Kootenay with Mr. Campion and expressed himself as pleased and extremely hopeful for great things there, as well as in Cariboo and other mining sections of the Province.  Mr. Burrell is connected with the important industries in the East, and has decided upon locating a branch of the Mac Machine Company at Trail, where a site has been donated for this concern as well as for the shops of the B.C. Iron Works of this city, also to be started in Trail.

            Other enterprises are talked of, and they will doubtless be secured.  When they are we will tell of it.
