Tramway Trouble

TRAMWAY TROUBLE. – To Be Settled Soon. – Work Goes Ahead. – The Builders Do Not Seem To Know That There Has [     ] Trouble.

            Work on the Trail Creek Tramway, the railroad now building from Trail to Rossland, is going ahead in a satisfactory manner.  When Mr. Gutelius received the order from the Vernon court, he wired the graders to go ahead with the work.  When D.C. Corbin secured his injunction in the Victoria courts, he wired Mr. Gutelius of the occurrence, but there was no legal reason why the latter should heed Mr. Corbin’s telegram, the work was not stopped.  The line is nearly all graded, and ties are laid over a considerable portion of it, and by April 1^st our people expect to see the road in operation.

            Mr. Corbin has said all along that he had been disposed to settle this matter and had no desire to interfere with the progress of the tramway company, that he would not stop the construction if he could, nor could not if he would.  He has said that his action in enjoining them was not for the purpose of delaying the work, but to prevent the tramway company from crossing his surveyed line several times as was shown on the map.

            The Rossland Miner came out last week in an open letter to Mr. Heinze.  The letter filled nearly two columns, with disconnected and disjointed bombast, and closed with mysterious threats of going before the legislature and securing an order to decapitate Mr. Heinze if he “trampled on the rights of one English citizen,” or something like that.  What it was all about no one in this section could understand, and it will be in order for the Miner to send a “key” with all such articles in the future.
