THE LOCAL GRIST.

Last Saturday night Alex McKenzie was given the contract to excavate for the water works reservoir, at 21 ¾ cents.  He was required to furnish a bond in the sum of $155, which he produced, and Monday morning he began his work.  The work consists of about 900 yards of excavation.

C.P.R.T. CHANGE.

The C.P.R. Telegraph Co. has decided to make Kaslo a more important point on the system and about the 5th of October will make this a general repeating point instead of Nelson, as heretofore.  The force will be enlarged by one man and new quarters will be fitted up in the McAnn building, now occupied by Miss Bell.  James Fagin will return to Vancouver and a Mr. McINtyre will be installed here as manager.  The company has recently made a considerable reduction to all local and Eastern points.
