Kaslo Council

COUNCIL IN SESSION. – E.W. Cummings Was Elected City Engineer and Water Commissioner.

            The council held a busy session last Saturday night.

            The most important matter to come up was the start on the water system by the selection of one of the many applicants, as the city engineer, E.W. Cummings, of Spokane, was elected.  Mr. Cummings has the very best of recommendations.  His salary was fixed at $150 per month.

            Councilman Murchison’s seat was declared vacant and an election to fill the vacancy was ordered.

            The following bills were presented: H. Giegerich, $2.25; Tribune Printing Co., $10; O.G. Dennis, $5; H.I. McDonald, $100; KOOTENAIAN, $30.80.

            A resolution thanking Mr. George A. Keefer, the well known engineer, for advice regarding the water supply and for his kindly interest in the city’s welfare, was introduced and adopted.

            Alderman Whiteside gave notice that at the next meeting he would introduce “Kaslo Exemption By-Law No. 1,” which will cover the proposition recently submitted to the city by George Alexander.

            Alderman Goodenough gave notice that he would at the same time introduce “Kaslo Electric Light By-Law.”

            The council ordered the fore shore cleared of driftwood, appropriated $35 for improvements on the school house, talked a good deal and adjourned.
