THE THING IS SETTLED NOW. – Council Takes First Step To Deliver the Water Bonds to Mr. Bostock. – Both Formally Accept.
Kaslo, through her city council, made the first step toward carrying out the proposed water works scheme last Wednesday night. Said step consisted of the acceptance and filing of the following petition:
To His Worship, the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the Corporation of the City of
Gentlemen – We, the undersigned owners of real property within the corporate limits of the Corporation of the City of Kaslo, respectfully request that you will introduce a by-law to enable the Corporation of the City of Kaslo to raise money upon the credit of the said Corporation of the City of Kaslo for the purpose of constructing an efficient system of water works and installing an electric light and power plant upon such terms and conditions as may seem to your honorable board judicious and advantageous to the city.
Signed by George T. Kane, Alfred Cameron and twenty-seven others, with an aggregate amount of assessed real property on the revised assessment roll for the year 1896, of $59,287.
The law requires that one-tenth of the assessed property shall petition in such cases, and as the assessed valuation of the city is $283,636, over one-fifth has petitioned in this case. All property holders would have signed, but it was not necessary.
Upon motion by Mr. Goodenough, seconded by Mr. Moore, the clerk was instructed to notify Mr. Retallack, as agent for Mr. Hewett Bostock, Esq., that the municipal council will take the necessary steps to complete their part of the contract with Mr. Bostock.
Mr. Whiteside then gave the following notice:

Mr. Whealler’s account was referred back for further consideration.
The clerk was instructed to ascertain prices and terms upon which a safe or iron doors for a vault can be procured for the use of the corporation.
The council will meet again at the call of Mayor Green.
