CASH FOR SWIM POOL GIVEN TO CITY FATHERS. - $4,000 Authorized By Gyros At Late Meeting. – Official Opening on June First Expected. – Carnival Will Be Staged in Connection.
That the Gyro swimming pool in Baker Park will be an accomplished fact by June first was indicated at a Gyro meeting Tuesday, when authorization was given to handing over of $4,000 to the city council to defray primary cost of the work which will be proceeded with on an extensive scale immediately. June first, unless an unforeseen circumstance intervenes, will also be the date of official opening which will be marked by the holding of a carnival on the site.
During the course of the business session a visit of Gyro heads was announced for Wednesday of next week. The visitors, international president Gordon Stovel, of
Tuesday’s dinner and business meeting was followed by a debate: “Resolved that Service Clubs are Justified in Operating Games of Chance to Raise Funds for Community Purposes.” The affirmative was taken by Ray harris and E. Ballard, the negative by Doug. Gray and Lorne Watson. Judges were W. Barber, Dr. Fergie and Ross Pascuzzo, who declared the affirmative winners by a close margin.
Later in the evening, the Miller team carried off the honors in the last club bowling games of the season with the Barber team in second place.
