ELKO  (From our own correspondent)

Mr. Price of Vancouver spent the night in town on Wednesday, having missed the train to Calgary.  He left the following evening, then continued on to Golden.

********

Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Grady and Celina Foisy motored to Fernie Friday, returning late in the evening accompanied by  Misses Ruth and Anna Gallagher.

********

Mr. and Mrs. H. Grady of Cranbrook motored to town on Sunday to visit their son Bert, motoring back on Tuesday afternoon.

********

A special meeting of the Elko Board of Trade was called on Monday night to discuss the road problem.  It is rumored that the Phillips Canyon road is to be changed, which will cut Elko off from tourists travelling that road, and the new road to Fernie is to be altered in order to cut off the Mott hill, which will also cut Elko off the tourist route.  These changes will seriously affect the farmers south of here and the business men in town.  Messrs. Archer, Wood and Crisafio were given permission to interview Mr. Stevens, district road superintendent for Fernie, to find out the intentions of the public works department regarding these proposed changes.  They were also given permission to meet the Fernie Board of Trade Tuesday evening to have them back the Elko Board of Trade in their protest against the proposed road changes.  A discussion on the proposed water system was had and the government has given an encouraging report and we are in hopes of getting the $5,000.00 that is required to get water to the town.  It was decided to obtain the names of those out of work in town and ask the government to start some road work here to relieve the unemployed here.  The entertainment committee has decided to put on a whist drive Friday evening and a dance on the following Saturday.

********

Ralph Lister motored to Fernie on Tuesday morning, accompanied by Miss C. Foisy and T. Conquergood.

********

            H. Angell motored to Fernie on Tuesday afternoon accompanied by Mrs. L. Beavis and Mr. J. Stokes.

********

Mr. G.E. Elkington motored to town on Sunday, returning later accompanied by the Misses Ruth and Anna Gallagher.
