Cranbrook City Council held special session with estimates for upcoming years expenses and proposed by-laws.

PREPARING TO MAKE EMPIRE DAY CELEBRATION BIGGEST AND BEST YET

The G.W.V.A. 24th May committee have arranged to hold this year’s celebration on the city grounds behind the Government buildings, and plans are proceeding to have the grounds fenced, and in good shape for the biggest celebration yet.  The present program calls for the holding of a miniature stampede in place of the horse racing, which has featured the past few years.  The usual morning parade, ball games, etc., will also be included in the program, and if no unforeseen element intervenes, the day should be one to remember.  Special efforts will be directed to have the city decorated as never before.  This adds to the good feeling necessary and is also one of the best advertisements possible.  Last year’s celebration had its chief fault in the lack of decoration both in the parade in the morning and those displayed on the streets, and the persons in charge of this end of the arrangements will see that more attention is given to this feature of the day.  Nothing boomerangs like success, and a successful celebration will repay the people who arrange it and those who take part many times over.  The goodwill of the district is an asset in putting over any such event as the holding of an annual big day, and the committee in charge of the preparations have, we think, that goodwill and intend to merit more of the same, so that anyone planning to see Cranbrook on the 24th of May will make no mistake in adhering to their intention and being here on that date.  The band will be in its best fettle for the occasion which will give impetus to the excitement and all in all everybody in the city on Empire Day should have really enjoyed themselves.
