CRANBROOK ROTARY

Mr. J.F. Armstrong, formerly government agent here, and an old resident of East Kootenay, was the speaker at Tuesday’s meeting of the Rotary Club.  The speaker took for his subject irrigation, starting with the first water right granted in 1852 until the present time, when the government of the province has been forced to take over and expend thousands of dollars in the Okanagan and other portions of the province to save flourishing orchards, which would otherwise have gone to ruin owing to irrigation companies making no allowance for maintenance and upkeep.

On account of his long residence in the Kootenay the speaker was familiar with every stream and river in this district and could at will relate the number of miners inches each and every company was taking for irrigation purposes.

Bill Attridge went into the drug business Tuesday and for ten minutes managed the Cranbrook Drug & Book company’s store.  He made an excellent talk and dispensed pills, Allenbury’s food, Wrigley’s gum and Dr. Williams’ Pink Pills for Pale People, humoprously remarking that the latter had been responsible for his somewhat robust appearance.

Henry Wilson is back from the Los Angeles Rotary convention.  There should be something doing when he reports at the next meeting.
