NEW WEEKLY READER BONUS

… Another change in the format of the Courier will be seen by readers in next week’s edition with the first publication of Town and Country.

… Starting Sept. 19 the Courier Town and Country will be distributed throughout the whole of the East Kootenay either alone or in conjunction with other area papers.

… Issued in conjunction with its sister papers of the Today Publications family, the Daily Townsman in Cranbrook and the Daily Bulletin in Kimberley, it will no longer give news coverage of timely incidents already carried in daily pages.  The news magazine approach will be used.

The Golden Star, the Creston Review, the Fernie Free press and the Lake Windermere Valley Echo will also carry the Town and Country as a supplement.  Outside their areas of distribution, additional mailing will assure virtual blanket coverage of the East Kootenay.  More than 17,000 issues will be distributed.

… “We will offer readership with broad distribution,” says Bill Taylor, president of Today Publications.  “The Courier Town and Country will be the most widely read newspaper in the Kootenays.  At least 85 per cent of the circulation will be paid.”

Taylor is enthusiastic about the thrust of the new plan toward bringing the communities of the East Kootenay closer together.  The news exchange planned among the participating papers, to be carried in the

(p12) Courier T&C, will be a tremendous bonus to the area, he feels.

… The television guide now carried in Action Guide will be transferred to the T&C, as well as some of the present features and new ones.  In all, the Courier T&C will likely run 36 tabloid pages per week.
