SECOND ANNUAL G.W.V.A. BALL – Merriest Function In Weeks Is Largely Attended – Fine Variety of Costumes.

The Cranbrook branch of the Great War Veterans held their second annual masquerade ball in the Auditorium Friday night, the 4th inst.

Needless to say, the event had been looked forward to with considerable interest, the result being that elaborate preparation had been made in every respect.  The interior of the Auditorium was prettily decorated with bunting of various colors, the ceiling and walls being one mass or network of beautiful designs.  The supper tables were laid out on the stage, and a special platform built in the balcony for the orchestra.

The music started at the usual time for such an occasion and it was not long before the floor was crowded with graceful figures representing nearly every nation on earth.  Nero was there in gorgeous array; the fourteenth century pirate held his sway; the slim, black-faced comical coon; all were there in that big ballroom.

About 11:30 the judging of costumes took place and the judges must have had a hard time in coming to decisions owing to the dozens of beautiful costumes.  However, the prizes were awarded as follows:

Best representative lady, Mrs. Art Wallace, Britannia; best dressed lady, Mrs. P. Dallas, harem lady; comic lady, Miss Frances Drummond, Old Bill; comic gent., Gilbert Lacy, the lady from Paris; best representative gent., Walter Kay, Indian Chief.

The supper tables were heavily burdened with all the delicacies imaginable and the merry-makers certainly did justice to the spread.

Dancing then proceeded with joyous revelry, frivolity and unbounded enjoyment.  Truly the function was one of the merriest in recent weeks, and after hours of unabated enjoyment everyone began to think of home sweet home, and so the big ball came to an end in the early hours of the morning.

Mr. Frank Passmore acted as M.C. for the occasion in his usual jovial and capable manner.

            Edmonson’s orchestra furnished the music.
