STEAMBOAT RACE – Which is the Greyhound of the Upper Columbia – The Ptarmigan Gian

To settle the above question a match for $100 a side between the S.S. Ptarmigan and Capt. Northcote Cantlie’s motor launch, the Gian, has been arranged.  The start will be made at 8 o’clock on Sunday morning at the Wilmer landing, and the first boat to pass the boom at Golden wins the prize.  The proceeds are to be given to the Golden Hospital.  This will be the most exciting contest in the history of the Upper Columbia river and with the respective captains steering their own racers we may be sure that the friendly contest will be forced to a finish.  From all we can gather it will be a most evenly contested race as the difference in time of the two boats down the river is very close.  The winner will be announced at The Outcrop Palace by a special correspondent directly after the contest is ended.    –Wilmer Outcrop.
