The damage cannot fall short of five million dollars, the greater loss falling upon the C.P.R., which lost the coal tipple, coal bunkers, depot, freight shed, water tower and over one hundred cars.
….For the rest, not a store, bank, hotel or business concern of any sort or description is left standing except the offices of the Coal Company. The Great Northern depot and water tank and the big concrete warehouse of the Trites Wood company still stand.

….The G.N. depot was burned together with two of the large truss bridges across the Elk. This company also lost every building in Fernie together with over two hundred freight cars.
C.P.R. DEPOT AT FERNIE GONE. – The fine new depot of the C.P.R. in Fernie built last year at a great expense was burned to the ground. Nothing is left of any of the C.P.R. buildings and one hundred cars were burned in the yards including two sleepers.
