Soft Drinks Bottled

SCOTT FRUIT TO BOTTLE SOFT DRINKS. – Modern Plant Now In Operation In Rear of Burns & Co. Premises. –

            Installation of one of the most up-to-date soft drink plants in the interior of British Columbia by the Scott Fruit Company, of this city, is now completed and is turning out approximately thirty-five cases of assorted flavours per hour daily.

            Situated in the rear section of the Burns & Co. premises the new quarters are well laid out to facilitate efficient production.  During the height of the season from three to four employees will be required but at present two will take care of the seasonable output.  Installation work was in charge of H.D. Brown, formerly of Nelson, who has installed several other plants throughout the Dominion, and who will proceed to Grand Prairie and other prairie points where his company is locating in the soft drink field.

            To insure their carbonated water products from any impurities the Scott Fruit company took precautionary measures and had the local water analyzed, and according to their report it is rated as being free from any dilatorious matter.

(p8)  SCOTT FRUIT SOFT DRINK PLANT LAST WORD IN MODERN BOTTLING. – Will Produce Orange Crush, Vita Kola, Crush Ricky, Lemon and Various Other Popular Flavors for Retail Trade.

Several Flavors Will Be Bottled.

            At present several soft drink flavours are being bottled including Orange Crush, the favourite drink, Vita Kola, Crush Ricky, Lemon Lime, and other popular lines.  It is the intention of the local firm to bottle a first quality ginger ale in the near future.

            The factory room is about twenty by thirty-five feet and is finished in silver paint over the brick.  Running water has been put in and a jacket heater.  The two large rooms off the main factory will be turned into ammonia refrigeration plants.

            Equipment is almost superhuman with three machines coordinating to do the work under manual supervision.  The central machine is the Miller hydro-electric washer, standing waist high, about twelve feet in length.  It is equipped with a belt with a double row of cups in which the bottles are placed.  The belt revolves and the bottles march into the washer, sterilizer and rinser in stately fashion and out the other side, ready to be filled.

            Several feet away, in the corner, water is piped into an iron filter about three feet tall, in which a stone removes all solids.  Then the water runs into a huge crock which takes all dissolved air out.  Standing by the crock is a tall steel tank containing liquid carbon dioxide, under pressure of 1810 pounds to the square inch.
