Manual Training School Exhibit

INDUSTRIAL ARTS SCHOOL VISITORS’ DAY. – Beautiful and Useful Hand Wrought Articles Were on Exhibit for Inspection. –

            That the Cranbrook Industrial Arts school is performing a well worth while mission for boys is quite evident when one is afforded the opportunity of inspecting their work accomplished.  Yesterday afternoon and evening open house was held at the Manual Training school building, when close to 300 visitors registered and saw for themselves what had been accomplished by Mr. J.S. Manson and his pupils.  All articles showed marked craftsmanship and able to withstand the closest scrutiny.

            Ushers helping Mr. Manson in showing the visitors around were Webster Hughes, Lawrence Kary, Ray and Roger Bertoia, Garth Dundass and George Huggins.

            Rather a new feature in the school is the study of electrical appliances, and there were several electrical announcers and other electrical contrivances on display.  Names noticed in connection with the making of these were Raymond Bertoia, Roland Allen, Henry Coleman, Henry McKowan and Archie Reekie.

            In the light metal work there were splendid examples of teapot stands, chesterfield ash trays, lead paper weights, plant holder, meat skewers and many other useful gadgets.

Hughes; trinket bowl, by Johnny Kolisnek; study table, by Mike Provenzano; occasional table, by Bill Purvis; black walnut table, by George Killins; bedside or night table, by L. Kary; walnut writing desk, by Don Shavela; black walnut chesterfield table, by Jack Soden; towel cabinet, by Gordon McDermid.

            Mr. Manson desires to thank the teachers of the Central School and Mrs. George Smith for floral decorations, which added to the attractiveness of the exhibition room.
