Mount Fisher

FISHER PEAK CLIMB ENTHUSES OLD TIMER. –

            The scaling of Fisher Peak by Dr. R.S. Geddes and T.A. Moore, the full account of which appeared in a recent issue of the Courier, has enlivened interest, and it is said that other parties also have in mind the climbing of that lofty pinnacle.  In fact, there are some ladies in the district who are said to be willing and anxious to have a try at it.  These ladies have had considerable experience in hiking and mountain climbing and have an abundance of grit and stamina.

            An old timer in the district who has been enthused over the recent feat is Rufus Kimpton, of Windermere, and writing to the Courier he says:

            “I see that some of the boys have taken to climbing Fisher Peak.  She certainly is a great old peak.  Just 48 years ago Jack Fisher told me that there was a stone with five names chiseled on it in the discovery of Wild Horse.  While the discovery was made in 1864, this stone it seems was not erected and inscribed until a year later.  The five names are: Jack Fisher, Ike Stevens, Pat Quick, a man named Morgan, and Peter Dunn.  I have met four out of the five.  This man Myers or Morgan I never met.  He left the country and settled in Oregon.  Old Pat Quick went there to him.  I am told the two are buried side by side in a little cemetery near Portland.  In their searching over the Wild Horse Creek now going on, I really hope someone will find this stone.”
