Fernie and Cranbrook Women

FERNIE SWASTIKAS DEFEAT CRANBROOK. –

            The crack Fernie Swastikas ladies’ hockey team added another notch to their belt Friday evening, when they again defeated the Cranbrook Canucks by a score of 3 to 0, making a clean sweep of the home and home series.  While the game was fast throughout, with ice conditions against both teams it was evident that the superior knowledge of the game on the part of the Fernie lassies was making itself felt.  Their combination work is exceptionally good.

            For the home team Miss Frances Drummond, in goal for the Canucks, and Miss Marjorie Burton, were the bright lights.  The rest of the team, after repeated attempts, failed to break through the Fernie defence.  It is, however, Cranbrook’s first attempt at ladies’ hockey, and it must be considered that they went up against the best ladies’ team in the west.  Taken as a whole the Canucks have nothing to be ashamed of in their showing for the first season.  The line-up –

            Following the game the Swastikas entertained the visitors, a round of social functions taking place in honor of the Canucks.  The members of the team and the fans all speak in highest praise of the wonderful hospitality of the Fernie girls, who did everything possible to make their stay in the city a most enjoyable one.
