A BIG MINING DEAL

A deal of considerable importance was consummated in Fort Steele on Saturday last whereby the New Gold Fields syndicate of London, England, have secured a bond on the Galore and Jew group of claims on Sullivan hill in close proximity to the famous Sullivan group.  This was engineered by N.A. Wallinger and Beale & Elwell.  The first payment on the bond was made on Saturday afternoon.  The Galore group, consisting of the Galore, Santa Anna and Emma Fraction is owned by E.C. Smith and others.  The Jew group, comprising the Jew, Velvet and Mac, is the property of J.D. McBride and others.

The plans of the company regarding these properties have not been fully outlined, although by the terms of the bond the work will commence by the first of May and be continued during the life of the bond.  The proximity of these claims to the Sullivan and the well known prominence of the company warrants the belief that extensive work will be done during the summer, and before snow flies there will probably be another property to add to the list of East Kootenay’s producing mines.

The New Gold Fields syndicate is the owner of the well known Violet mine near Rossland.

This deal is the first recorded on this year.
