A PROFITABLE BUSINESS – The Crow’s Nest Pass Lumber Co. Secure Over 6,000,000 Feet of Logs.

            Owing to the rapid influx of emigration into the Northwest Territories, and the greatly increased demand for lumber of all kinds, sawmills in Southeast Kootenay have been working at extreme pressure to supply the ever-increasing demand, and the profits of this branch of industry have been considerable.

            AMONG THE LOGGERS – At Doyle’s logging camp on the St. Mary’s river, there are 5,000,000 feet of logs ready for the drive, which will take place about June 1^st.

            The Indians, at their camp near Fort Steele, have about 800,000 feet of logs.

            T. Fenwick a his ranch on the Kootenay river has about 500,000 feet.

            At E.J. Cann’s camp there is about 500.000 feet of logs.

            The Crow’s Nest Pass Lumber Co., situated at Wardner, have acquired this vast amount of logs, and as soon as the St. Mary’s and Kootenay rivers have sufficient water, driving will commence.

            NORTHEAST KOOTENAY – Northeast Kootenay is at the present time displaying great activity in cruising and the location of large tracts of timber, and will become an important lumbering centre upon the construction of the Kootenay Central railway.

Logging in Southeast Kootenay is rapidly being closed up.  The cut on the St. Mary’s river and in the vicinity of Steele will amount to about 7,000,000 feet.
