MOYIE – NEWS NOTES FROM THE MINERAL CITY

The St. Eugene Mine.

The St. Eugene Mine, during the month of March, not only came up to any record previously made, but surpassed it.  The mine during the month turned out 3400 tons of concentrates which is 400 tons more than was turned out any month previously.  For some time past it has been rumored that a shutdown or partial shutdown was to be expected owing to the low price of lead.  Nothing definite, however, could be learned.  On Monday last when both the morning and evening shift went on, a number of men working in the mines were laid off.  There has been no ore shipped since last Saturday, when a shipment was made to Belgium.  Although the force in the mines is somewhat reduced the compressor and mill have their full force of men and are running double shift.
