Newspaper excerpt Vancouver Province - escaped elephant Myrtle dies in the wilds surrounding Cranbrook.

ARMISTICE DANCE NOVEMBER 12th – Poppy Day, November 11th, Will be Observed as Usual.

In observance of a time-honored custom established by its parent organization, the G.W.V.A., the Cranbrook Branch, Canadian Legion of the B.E.S.L., will observe Armistice day, November 11th, as usual.  Poppies will be sold on the streets for the benefit of infirm war veterans and their dependents, preparations being now under way to push the sale of the flowers to the uttermost.  In addition, the returned men will observe the customary two minutes silence in honor of the memories of fallen comrades during the forenoon.  On the evening of November 12th an Armistice ball will be held in the Auditorium Theatre, an annual social event to which all are cordially welcomed.

The Legion expects to be in its new home on Baker Street about two months hence, contractor Alex Murdoch having practically completed the laying of the foundation of the building.  The clubhouse is to be of brick veneer, two stories in height, lower floor divided into billiard rooms and other apartments.
