0050.0564: Calgary Elephant Stampede

After stampeding through Edmonton, elephants again stampede when being offloaded in Calgary.

HEY THERE!  ELEPHANTS!

Say!  Look out for elephants!  There are three herds of them in Calgary today, and they all came to town this morning with the Sells-Floto circus, one of the world’s largest shows.

Each of these three herds of large and tiny elephants are handled by ladies, one herd performing in each ring at the same time.  Miss Irene Ledgette, the fashion plate of the circus, works in the centre ring; Miss Effie Rairdon works at one end of the big tent and Miss Balley, a black-eyed beauty, a dainty little lady of unusual charm, works four massive elephants at the other end of the tent.

The final performance of the big circus in Calgary this year takes place tonight in the blaze of electric light generated by the show’s portable light plants.
