MIRACULOUS ESCAPE FROM SURE DEATH –
The first serious accident at the new Wycliffe bridge occurred Monday before noon, when Walter Laurie, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Laurie, fell a distance of about fifty feet, when he was removing false work from the bridge. Men engaged on the work with young Laurie say it was a miracle that he came out of the accident alive. When the false work crashed, carrying young Laurie with it, heavy timbers fell all around him. Fellow employees rushed to his assistance, finding him bleeding from the mouth and complaining of a pain in his side. First aid was administered and the St. Eugene hospital ambulance summoned. He was rushed to the hospital, where examinations revealed broken ribs and a cracked hip.
Reports from the hospital today state he is resting easy.
