Grasmere & Roosville History: Jack & Belle McDonald c.1914
Belle & Jack McDonald on there Wedding Day c.1914. In 1914 Jack moved to Fernie where he met and married Isabella Letcher. They lived in Edmonton for a short time, also Okotoks, Alberta where they farmed with his uncle. In 1923 they moved to Roosville where they bought the ranch from his father-in-law, Thomas Letcher and Syndicate, and they raised their family, Tom, Doug, Ruth, Bob and Andy. Doug and Andy remained in Roosville to work with Jack in operating the ranch and later the sawmill. Mr. McDonald who was a carpenter by trade is remembered for his contribution in constructing many buildings in the South Country and Fernie area and especially in establishing the Grasmere United Church. The McDonalds, who were always actively involved in community affairs, contributed many years of service to the church, schools and the Triangle Women's Institute of which Belle was secretary-treasurer for over thirty years.
