CRANBROOK CURLERS CAPTURE JEWELRY - Cameron Rink Snatches Interprovincial
Trophy in Hard-Fought Game.
Although but one Cranbrook rink participated in the bonspiel of the
Crows Nest Curling Association, held in Coleman, Alberta, last week, the
local men did not return empty-handed. The Liphardt Cup, and four
miniature duplicates were the spoils snatched by the Cameron rink from
their Alberta brothers of the stane and besom. With Mr. Cameron were J.
Taylor, lead, A. Towriss, second, and Lester Clapp, 3rd. Practically
speaking Cameron won the trophy twice. In the first instance, the local
men faced odds of 8 up for Alberta when called upon to defend the honor of
East Kootenay. The local men rose to the emergency like heroes, finishing
with a score of 17 to Alberta's 2, four up on the prairie men. Later the
Cranbrook rink went up against Fisher of Michel winning the cup for their
old home town.
Messrs. Cameron, Taylor, Towriss and Clapp all speak in glowing terms
of the hospitality extended to them by the curlers of Alberta. Nothing
that was necessary to making them feel at home was lacking they state.
They are also warmly praising the banquet of Wednesday, the 27th ult. the
occasion of the annual meeting of the Crows Nest Curling Association.
There was, they state, a magnificent spread laid down in the dining room of
the Grand Union Hotel with a snappy program following to provide further
entertainment. During the course of the business meeting the following
named were elected to office.
President - W.F. Cameron, Cranbrook.
Vice-President - H.C. McBurney, Coleman.
Secretary-treasurer - Sherwood Herchmer, Fernie.
Executive - Messrs. McPhee, McGrath, Kastner, Fisher, Bolton, Morgan,
Allison, Young, Marnock, Munroe, Reynolds, Reid and Dr. Keys.
Among other matters decided upon at the annual meeting was that the
next annual bonspiel of the association will be played off in Cranbrook.
The Coleman draw totaled 26 rinks.
