RECEPTION TO MRS. J.H. KING
The ladies of Cranbrook gave a public reception on Tuesday in honor
of Mrs. J.H. King, wife of the Hon. J.H. King, former minister of public
works for Canada. The reception was largely attended. Mrs. Charles Little
ably filled the chair and Mrs. McKowan and Mrs. F.B. Miles both gave short
addresses. Mrs. McKowan particularly drew attention to the fact that
through the Liberal government the average citizen from one end of Canada
to the other had benefited greatly, and made special mention of the
support given the Old Age Pension by the Hon. Dr. King, which legislation
was brought in by the MacKenzie King government during the last session of
parliament.
Mrs. Miles touched on the promises made during the last campaign and
showed how they had been fulfilled both by the Liberal party and by the
Hon. Dr. King, the present Liberal candidate. She also stressed the return
of the Liberal party on the ground that Canada was a country enjoying great
prosperity. That the bank accounts showed great increase, and also that
the life insurance written up was greatly in excess of any other period.
Mrs. F.M. MacPherson had charge of the musical programme and vocal
selections were rendered by Mrs. F.M. MacPherson, Mrs. Park and Mrs. Banks.
Mrs. Dow, Mrs. A.A. MacKinnon, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. (Dr.) Large, Mrs.
W.H. Wilson, Mrs. E.I. Paterson, Mrs. Rankin, Mrs. Armstrong, Mrs. Roberts
and Miss Marion MacKinnon and other ladies ably assisted.
