Labour unions have fought for workers’ rights since they were established to protect workers from their employers’ one-sided mandates and unsafe conditions and to create the eight-hour workday.

The Columbia Basin Institute of Regional History (CBIRH) is proud to be working with the East Kootenay District Labour Council (EKDLC) on the presentation and history of the labour unions and council:

With Canada Post workers striking, it highlights the importance of unions in a rapidly shifting world where policy collapse in favour of profit retention marks the employee as a dispensable cog to the greater wheel of commerce. Thank you to the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) for demonstrating your rights and asking Canada Post to find a solution that keeps jobs and enhances the quality of life for Canadian citizens.
