Mining was a great generator of economic activity for Cranbrook from 1898 onwards after the railway was built. Besides the large mine and concentrator at Kimberley, other mines were the silver/lead St. Eugene Mine at Moyie and the hydraulic gold mining (this image) on Wild Horse Creek near Fort Steele
