0431.0001: Paddlewheeler S.S. Moyie, The Last Sternwheeler

S.S. Moyie at Kaslo, B.C., "The Last of the Sternwheelers". Against a backdrop of the rugged Purcell Mountains and sparkling Kootenay Lake, this graceful old steamer lies in retirement on Kaslo Beach. It is now a museum in the care of the Kootenay Lake Historical Society. In 1898 the metal hull was shipped in sections from Toronto, and the wooden superstructure was constructed on the shores of Kootenay Lake. The S.S. Moyie saw service until 1957, and was the last of dozens of sternwheelers to ply the inland waterways. Weight: 728.9 tons gross-length: 161.7 feet-breadth: 30 feet-draft: 3 feet. Photo by E.
