BUILDING NOTES - Disappearing Snow Stimulates Activity

The warm days and winds of last week succeeded in changing much of the snow about town into running rivulets and at the same time set those contemplating building to getting an accelerated motion on themselves. As a result the lumber for two new buildings is already partially on the sites, and work on them already under way.

            V. Hyde Baker has commenced the construction of a store building, to be attractively finished and of modern design; it will comprise two stories, and the dimensions 24x40 feet. The upper story will be finished for either lodging or family purposes.

The second building will probably be of about the same dimensions, though at this writing the details have not been determined. It will not be built by W.T. Kaake on his own account.

Contractor Sibbald is remodeling the Baker residence, under the direction of Hyde Baker, who when work is completed, will have the coziest bachelor’s home in East Kootenay as well, probably, as the most elegant.

Ryan & Morrison, of the Cranbrook Hotel, are finishing the attic for lodging purposes, so greatly is Cranbrook guests increasing in number. This will almost double the capacity of the house.

Mrs. Donahue, of the East Kootenay house, will also make extensive improvements, principle among which as at present contemplated, will be a wing on the east side, of either one or two stories, for office and bar purposes, increased lodging rooms, and also a parlor.

A number of other buildings are in contemplation, but until the contemplation assume a tangible shape THE HERALD will not particularize.
