Cranbrook Lions Club has pledged $10,000 over a three-year period for the city’s new swimming pool.

At the club’s regular meeting this week members discussed the swimming pool project and the planning work being done by the Cranbrook & District Recreation Projects Society.

Main discussion was on how long a period the pledge should be made for.

It was finally decided that one-third of the sum will be made available to the society immediately upon request and the remainder over three years.

“We feel the swimming pool is a most worthy project,’ said Lions President Gus Conroy, “and the only way it will be built is by all community organizations giving it their wholehearted support.”

This is the second $10,000 pledge for the swimming pool project.  Cranbrook Gyro club got things rolling last month with a similar undertaking.

Total raised to date is slightly over $23,000.  Kinsmen Club are donating close to $3,000 from their Sam Steele Days car raffle and United Trailers has donated $300.

“Support of the service clubs is most gratifying,” declared Projects Society President Ron Powell, “with this type of help we will have our pool built for next year.”

A joint service club co-ordinating committee has also been formed with Rick Spooner as chairman.  This group will co-ordinate fund raising activities among the various service clubs and stage two or three major events during the year.  First one will likely be a Walkathon in the spring.
