[EDITORIAL]  VOLUNTEERS NEEDED AT MOIR PARK NEXT SUNDAY

An urgent appeal is issued for a large number of volunteer workers equipped with hammers at Moir Park next Sunday afternoon from 12:30 o’clock on, in order to clean up a certain amount of work necessary to put the grounds in good shape for the May 24th celebration.  It is hoped local citizens will demonstrate their community spirit by turning out in large numbers, and if this is done the work can be accomplished in jig time.

Local equipment firms and fuel dealers will be making a very generous donation to this work by sending cat tractors up to Moir Park next Saturday afternoon and Sunday, to work on the grounds.  It is estimated their contribution will have a value of around $1,000.  Firms sending tractors are Cranbrook Sash & Door Co. Ltd., J.S.B. Timber and Fuel Products, Finning Tractor & Equipment Co., East Kootenay Equipment Co. (three tractors); B.C. Dept. of Public Works (grader).  The following companies will donate fuel for the machines: B-A Oil Co., Imperial Oil Ltd. and Texaco Oil Company.

Last Sunday a work bee was in session, but only eight volunteers showed up, including one alderman.  Next Sunday the general chairman of the May 24th Celebration would like to see the Mayor and all aldermen, scads of citizens (including ye editor) in attendance with hammers.

And to make it a real picnic – how about a ladies’ service club arranging to serve sandwiches and coffee!
