Cranbrook High School Cranbrook High School

Cranbrook High School (c1930)located on 10th Ave South. AE and AL Jones built the new front entrance and the gymnasium addition. Bev Dixon had a play school in the basement for about 30 years. The building was purchased by the FourSquare Church in the late 1980s. They were in need of a larger home due to a growing congregation and the facilities of the 10th Avenue school were perfect.

Postcard depicting the Cranbrook Public School. Known as Central Elementary School, this building opened in 1912, was expanded several times, and closed as a school in 1979. The cupola on the front tower has been removed.

The St. Eugene Hospital in Cranbrook, BC. This was a nursing hospital run by the Catholic Sisters of Providence. The last class of nurses was graduated in 1949. The hospital was opened in 1901 on land donated by Colonel Baker.

Perhaps the earliest known image of what was to become Cranbrook, this photograph of Joseph Prairie shows the structures developed by John Galbraith on land he pre-empted prior to the sale of this property to Colonel James Baker in 1885. At this time there was a sawmill, residence and store on the property, as well as farm outbuildings.
